Holographic postcards bring Sarajevo’s iconic Sarajka to life at Planet Sarajevo.
A new digital experience at Planet Sarajevo introduces visitors to Sarajevo’s urban heritage through holographic technology, offering a fresh way to explore one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. In collaboration with Digi.ba, the museum presents holographic postcards that transform familiar symbols into immersive, three-dimensional experiences.
This initiative is part of the XR Culture project, through which Planet Sarajevo was selected among six European museums working on innovative approaches to cultural heritage. The project focuses on using extended reality, 3D digitisation, and interactive formats to make heritage more accessible and engaging for contemporary audiences.
At the center of this experience is the Sarajka Department Store, a key symbol of Sarajevo’s urban development in the second half of the 20th century. Through holographic projection, Sarajka is reinterpreted as a dynamic visual experience, allowing visitors to see and understand its significance in a completely new way.
Rather than functioning as static displays, these holographic postcards create a connection between memory and technology. They combine elements of storytelling, design, and XR innovation to offer visitors an experience that is both simple to access and visually striking.
One of the key features of this concept is that the experience does not end inside the exhibition space. Visitors can take the holographic postcards with them, share them, or use them as a contemporary digital souvenir — extending their connection with Sarajevo beyond the visit itself.
With projects like this, Planet Sarajevo continues to expand its role within the city’s cultural landscape, introducing new formats that connect heritage, technology, and audience experience. This approach contributes to the growing interest in immersive cultural content and positions Sarajevo within wider European trends in digital heritage and tourism.
