The World’s Largest Youth Rock Band Begins in SARAJEVO

A New Chapter in Sarajevo’s Musical Story

Sarajevo has always been a city of music. From the legendary days of Indexi and Bijelo Dugme to the generations of musicians who shaped the cultural identity of the city, music has always been one of Sarajevo’s strongest languages. The spirit of rock’n’roll, creativity and artistic freedom became deeply woven into the identity of the city and remains an important part of Sarajevo’s cultural heritage today. In 2026, that story enters a completely new chapter.

Sarajevo Rocks 2026 is a unique international music project that will bring together more than 1,000 young musicians, singers, instrumentalists, bands, choirs, music schools and academies from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region and across Europe. The central event will take place on June 21, 2026, on World Music Day, transforming Sarajevo into one giant open-air stage filled with music, energy and young creativity. The project is organized by Pop Rock School Sarajevo, Planet Sarajevo and Radio Kameleon, with the support of Visit Sarajevo and numerous partners.

More Than a Concert

Although the project aims to create the world’s largest youth rock band and pursue a Guinness World Record attempt, Sarajevo Rocks 2026 is much more than a single concert. For months before the final performance, participants will take part in rehearsals, mentoring sessions, workshops and collaborative music-making experiences. Young musicians will have the opportunity to learn what it means to perform as part of a collective sound while sharing discipline, creativity and energy with hundreds of other performers. The project connects young people through music while promoting cooperation, education, creativity and cultural exchange. It creates a platform where music becomes a universal language capable of bringing together different generations, cultures and communities.

Why Sarajevo?

Few cities in Europe have a musical heritage as rich and influential as Sarajevo. The city gave birth to some of the most important bands and artists in Southeast Europe, while Sarajevo’s pop-rock scene became one of the defining cultural movements of the former Yugoslavia. Its music shaped generations and created songs that remain part of the collective memory of the region even today.

At Planet Sarajevo, visitors can already explore this remarkable story through immersive exhibitions dedicated to Sarajevo’s pop-rock heritage, legendary performers, iconic music venues and the generations that created the soundtrack of the city. Sarajevo Rocks 2026 builds directly on this legacy by connecting Sarajevo’s musical past with its future. It is a project that celebrates not only what Sarajevo once was, but also what Sarajevo continues to become.

Planet Sarajevo and the Future of Music Heritage

As one of the most innovative museums in Sarajevo, Planet Sarajevo uses immersive storytelling, multimedia installations and interactive technologies to preserve and reinterpret the city’s cultural heritage for new generations. The museum explores the stories, music, innovations, architecture and cultural movements that shaped Sarajevo during its most dynamic decades. Through experiences that combine history with modern technology, Planet Sarajevo has become one of the most unique things to do in Sarajevo for both local visitors and international tourists. Sarajevo Rocks 2026 represents a natural continuation of that mission. Through this project, the philosophy of Planet Sarajevo moves beyond the museum walls and into the streets and public spaces of the city. Music becomes a living exhibition, while young musicians become active participants in Sarajevo’s evolving cultural story.

Visitors exploring Planet Sarajevo before the event will have the opportunity to understand why Sarajevo became one of the most important music centers in the region and why projects like Sarajevo Rocks 2026 feel so natural in this city.

A Cultural Event with International Impact

Sarajevo Rocks 2026 is expected to attract participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, North Macedonia and other European countries. The project combines culture, tourism, youth engagement and education in a way rarely seen in the region. For visitors planning a trip to Sarajevo in June 2026, the event offers the opportunity to experience one of the most exciting cultural events in Bosnia and Herzegovina, featuring live performances by more than 1,000 musicians and a large public celebration of World Music Day in Sarajevo. At the same time, the event further positions Sarajevo as a regional center of creativity, music, culture and innovative cultural tourism.

Be Part of History

Sarajevo Rocks 2026 sends a simple but powerful message: music can connect people, generations and cities more strongly than almost anything else. On June 21, 2026, Sarajevo will not simply listen to music. Sarajevo will play together.
